Does BOMBANANA! Work on Linux? The Honest Answer

This is the most confusing question about the game, and the reason is that two official sources disagree. We are going to show you both rather than pick one.
What Steam says
Steam's own platform data for BOMBANANA! lists:
- Windows: yes
- Mac: yes
- Linux: no
That is the app's platform flag, set by the developer. It means there is no native Linux build.
What the studio's FAQ says
The official Discord FAQ answers "What Platforms is it on?" with:
"Steam for PC, Steam Deck, Mac & Linux."
So the studio lists Linux.
How both can be true
The most likely explanation — and we are labelling it as an explanation, not a fact — is Steam Deck.
Steam Deck runs Linux, and the studio confirmed Steam Deck support separately. Games without native Linux builds run on Deck through Valve's Proton compatibility layer. A studio that has verified their game on Deck can reasonably describe it as running on Linux, while Steam's platform flag still says there is no native Linux binary.
If that is what is happening, then on a desktop Linux machine you would be running it through Proton too, not through a native build.
To be confirmed: whether Lefto Studio intend to ship a native Linux build, and whether the game is officially Proton-verified as opposed to just Deck-supported. We have asked nothing and been told nothing — this is simply not published.
What to do right now
- On Steam Deck: it is supported. Just install it.
- On desktop Linux: you will be going through Proton. Enable Steam Play for all titles in Steam's settings if it is not already on.
- Do not expect a native build, because Steam's own data says there isn't one.
Why so many people are searching this
The two most common Linux searches for this game are "why doesn't bombanana work on linux" and "does bombanana work on linux" — and between them they get searched more than PlayStation does. Our guess is that people read the FAQ, saw Linux listed, tried it, and hit the gap between the two answers above.
If you came here from that, you were not doing anything wrong.
